The Importance Of Regular Vehicle Maintenance

Posted on: 9 February 2019

Keeping your car running correctly is essential for a lot of reasons. Regular maintenance will keep your vehicle in good working condition and save you money on repairs down the road.

Extending the Life of Your Vehicle

One of the best reasons to keep your car or truck on a regular maintenance schedule is extending the life of the vehicle. Many parts on your car wear out over time, but if you keep the car in good shape and replace those parts as they need to be, it can help preserve other components on the vehicle.

Preventing Breakdowns

If you do not keep up with the maintenance of your car, it is far more likely to breakdown out of the road. The simplest way to find worn parts and keep them from getting worse is through the inspection process. A good mechanic will look over the entire car while they are under it and let you know what items need replacing.

Maintenance Items

There are some critical parts of the car that need addressing regularly. Some of these include the following items:

Tire Care

Rotating the tires every other oil change will help keep the tires in good shape. The tires can wear uneven if they are not rotated correctly, leading to damage and the need for replacing the tires.

Oil Changes

Oil and filter changes are probably one of the most important maintenance items and one of the most overlooked items at the same time. People routinely go beyond the recommended maintenance interval and forget all about the oil and filter changes.

Air Filters

The air filter on your car is critical to keeping the engine running right. If the filter is clogged with dirt, the mix of fuel and air will be off, and the engine will not run properly. The result can be poor fuel economy as well as a poor running engine in your car or truck. Changing the filter should be done whenever the filter has enough dirt on it to stop any light from coming through the filter.

Chassis Lubrication

Lubrication of the chassis will keep the moving parts like the ball joints, u-joints, and the other components free and moving correctly. While the chassis does not need to be lubricated every time the vehicle is in the shop, it should be checked and lubricated whenever the grease is dry or limited amounts of grease are present.
